AJ and Dr. Carson (not a real doctor) talk about how babies are made.
Talking Points:
- Where do babies come from? Male sperm fertilizes a female egg, and new, unique cells are formed. These cells begin dividing. They form germ layers and begin folding over one another, forming organ systems as a new baby grows.
- How does the sperm get to the egg? You should probably have a conversation with your parents about it! This is definitely not a time to Google an answer.
- Why is baby-making called “the birds and the bees?” It’s hard to know when the phrase first came up, but basically it’s a way parents first talk about reproduction with young kids. All life, like birds and bees, reproduces somehow. We can see it all around us.
