Your attitude is how you react to your feelings and it can determine whether you have a good day or a bad day.

Talking Points:

  • No matter how you feel on the inside, you can control how you act on the outside!
    • Step #1: Be positive! Even when bad things happen, you can stay positive and learn from it.
    • Step #2: Be thankful! Choose to focus on what is going well in your life and that will take your focus off the bad stuff.
    • Step #3: Practice, practice, practice! Your attitude is like a habit. If you always choose to focus on the bad feelings, you’ll have a bad attitude. If you choose to focus on the positive feelings and are thankful, you’ll have a great attitude!
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. Share the last time you were in a bad mood. How did your bad mood affect the rest of your day?
  3. How do you feel when you’re around someone who’s complaining all the time?
  4. List 3 things you’re thankful for in your life. How can you remember those things the next time you get bummed or mad about something?
  5. Role Play: Choose a kid and create some scenarios that would make for a bad day (woke up late and couldn’t eat breakfast, forgot about a test, canceled sleepover). As a class, decide how the kids should react to each scenario first with a bad attitude and then with a good attitude.
  6. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
