The things we eat and drink on a daily basis can impact our health in big ways.
Key Points:
- Carbohydrates are either sugars or molecules your body breaks down to make sugars. These sugars are like fuel for your body.
- When we eat carbohydrates, our blood sugar goes up. There is also an effect in our digestion system because our digestive tract does not respond to all carbohydrates the same.
- Simple carbohydrates are easily digested and quickly release sugar into the bloodstream. More complex carbohydrates are not easly digested and don’t have this immediate effect.
- Insulin is a substance created by the pancreas that regulates sugar in your body. “Insulin resistance” is something that happens when we consume too many simple carbohydrates over time.
- Insulin resistance can lead to “metabolic syndrome,” which has a whole lot of bad physical results. It’s just not good overall.
Quote This:
Sugar is sugar and too many carbs can be a problem.
