You teen is using drugs and you don't know what to do. The key to success lies in how you view your role in their struggle.
Talking Points:
- Kids typically start using drugs out of curiosity and to have fun. They then continue using so they won’t feel bad because of how the drugs have affected their brains. Eventually, they will be so addicted that they have to use just to feel normal.
- As a parent, you need to change your role if your teen is addicted. Instead of being a Caregiver, you have to transition into being a Landlord. This will include clear written boundaries that can be executed in a very matter of fact way.
- Nothing will work unless there are clear consequences. The rules should be fair and delivered with compassion. This will help your teen realize that there are ramifications for their actions.
