How to Stop Your Self-Loathing

We all make mistakes but is it helpful to hate ourselves over it?

  • The typical model for anger is known as the “ABC” model. A stands for Activating event, B stands for the Belief about what I did and myself, and C is for the consequences faced as a result of my actions.
  • Challenge the way you think about the mistakes you make. One action doesn’t make you a horrible person, so don’t let yourself think like that.
  • Practice self-compassion, not in a way that excuses your actions, but rather in a way that takes it as an opportunity to grow and move forward. Punishing ourselves is not constructive, and it may be setting us back even further.
